How Rebounding Supports Children with Autism and ADHD

At Boogie Bounce, we’ve heard from many parents about the incredible benefits of rebounding for children with autism and ADHD. Movement is a key part of how many neurodivergent children regulate their emotions, focus their attention, and feel at ease in their environment. One of our members, Becky, recently shared how Boogie Bounce has transformed her daughter’s daily routine, providing not just fun, but also a valuable tool for focus and emotional regulation.

The Need for Movement: A Natural Way to Focus

Becky’s daughter has both autism and ADHD, and like many children with ADHD, she struggles with holding attention, listening, forgetting, and organising. Finding activities that help her channel her energy while maintaining focus has been a challenge, but rebounding has provided a surprising solution.

“When she is on the Boogie Bounce rebounder (a bit like her wobble stool), she is constantly moving, but it’s static and rhythmical,” Becky explains. “I stand more of a chance of her focusing on tasks than I do simply by asking her. It’s a way of channelling that constant need for physical movement, but in a relaxed way, without her even realising it’s helping us both out.”

This is a powerful insight—many autistic and ADHD children thrive on repetitive, rhythmic movement, which can help increase focus and reduce anxiety. Research has shown that gentle bouncing and repetitive movement can stimulate the vestibular system, which plays a major role in balance and spatial awareness. This stimulation has been linked to improved concentration and cognitive function, making activities like rebounding incredibly beneficial.

More Smiles, More Giggles: The Emotional Benefits of Rebounding

Beyond improving focus and engagement, Becky has noticed a shift in her daughter’s mood and general well-being since introducing the mini trampoline into their routine.

“Most definitely—she is happy when she is on the bouncer. She giggles and sings when she is jumping up and down,” Becky shares.

Exercise has long been linked to increased serotonin and dopamine levels, the feel-good chemicals in the brain. This is particularly important for children with ADHD, as they often have lower levels of dopamine, which affects motivation, mood, and attention. The fun, free-flowing movement of rebounding creates an experience that feels like play but offers real neurological benefits. Read more here.

A Family Activity That Works for Everyone

One of the unexpected joys of Boogie Bounce has been how much it brings the whole family together. Becky describes the routine of setting up the rebounder as something her kids actively enjoy.

“It’s a family affair putting it together,” she says. “I roll the rebounder out, and between my children, they put the legs on with a little help from me.”

Compared to other sensory tools they’ve tried, like a peanut ball, Becky finds the Boogie Bounce mini trampoline much more practical.

“The peanut ball doesn’t give the variety in movement that my daughter craves,” she explains. “The Boogie Bounce rebounder is much better because it’s easier to store, doesn’t get in the way, and is always ready to use when we need it.”

This flexibility makes rebounding exercise a brilliant solution for families who need a portable, easy-to-use, and effective sensory activity at home.
