Find Out MoreThe school summer holidays can be a lovely chance to spend more time together, enjoy days out and step away from the usual term-time rush.
But they can also make it much harder to maintain your normal fitness routine.
Your days may become less predictable, childcare takes priority and the time you would normally spend exercising can quickly disappear. Even if you usually attend regular classes or have a good weekly routine, six weeks of changing plans can make it easy to lose momentum.
The answer is not to create a perfect summer schedule. It is to find flexible ways to keep moving that work around family life.
One of the easiest ways to become frustrated during the holidays is to expect your routine to stay exactly the same.
You may not be able to exercise at your normal time. Your usual class may clash with family plans, or a full workout may feel unrealistic when the children are at home all day.
That does not mean you have failed or need to abandon exercise until September. It simply means your summer routine may need to be more flexible.
Instead of focusing on what you cannot do, think about what could work now.
That might be:
A different routine can still be an effective one.
Home workouts can be especially useful during the school holidays because they remove many of the barriers that make exercise difficult.
There is no journey to a gym or class, no need to arrange additional childcare and no pressure to fit your day around a fixed start time.
With Boogie Bounce, you can log into the app or YouTube membership and choose a routine that suits the time and energy you have available.
On days when you have time for a full session, you might choose a 25- or 30-minute Boogie Bounce workout. When the day is busier, a shorter Basic Bounce routine or one of the quicker challenges can still help you move, lift your energy and maintain the habit.
Because Boogie Bounce rebounders fold for storage and take only a couple of minutes to set up, they can also be put away when they are not being used. Keeping yours somewhere accessible can make it much easier to fit in a quick routine when an opportunity appears.
Exercise does not always have to be something you do separately from family time.
You could put some music on and have a dance, create a simple garden circuit, go for a bike ride or make a walk more interesting with a scavenger hunt.
If your children are old enough and it is safe and appropriate, they may also enjoy joining in with some simple movement while you exercise nearby. The aim does not need to be a perfectly structured workout. It can simply be a way for everyone to move and burn off some energy together.
This also helps children see physical activity as a normal and enjoyable part of everyday life rather than something that only happens during PE lessons or organised sport.
Staying active does not always have to mean completing a formal workout.
The summer holidays can naturally create opportunities for movement through:
These activities may not feel like traditional exercise, but they all add movement to your day.
A family day out that involves plenty of walking can be just as valuable as forcing yourself through a workout when you are tired and short on time.
Although flexibility matters, having a little structure can stop the whole summer from disappearing without you doing anything for yourself.
At the beginning of the week, look at what is already planned and choose two or three realistic opportunities to exercise.
For example:
Treat this as a guide rather than a strict timetable. If something changes, move the workout or choose a shorter option instead.
The goal is to keep some form of movement in your week—not to make the holidays feel like another list of tasks.
During the school holidays, it is easy for every part of the day to centre around everyone else.
Making a little time for movement is not selfish. Exercise can give you a mental break, improve your energy and help you feel more like yourself during a period when your usual routines and personal space may be limited.
Even 10 or 15 minutes can give you a chance to reset.
You do not always need uninterrupted time, perfect conditions or a full hour to do something worthwhile.
Staying active during the school summer holidays is not about following the same routine you manage during term time.
It is about adapting.
Some weeks may include full Boogie Bounce workouts. Others may be built around shorter routines, walks, swimming, days at the park and active time with the children.
All of it counts.
By keeping your expectations realistic and making use of flexible options like home workouts, you can maintain your fitness, energy and confidence without missing out on family time.
Your summer routine may look different—but it can still help you feel active, positive and ready for everything the holidays bring.
